Privacy Policy

Search queries. When you search for a taxi route, Farezi logs the query string to improve route coverage and search quality. Search logs do not include your name, device identifier, or any personally identifiable information.

Location data. If you use the Near Me feature, Farezi requests your device's approximate location to show nearby taxi ranks. Location is used only within your current app session. We do not store, transmit, or share your location with any third party.

Contact and enquiry messages. If you contact us through the contact form, we store your name, email address, subject, and message so our team can respond. This information is used solely to reply to your enquiry and is not shared with third parties.

Route and fare submissions. If you submit a taxi fare or route correction, we store the submitted data including origin, destination, and fare amount. You may optionally provide an email address if you want updates on your submission. Email addresses provided with submissions are used only to follow up on that specific submission.

Farezi does not require you to create an account. We do not collect passwords, payment information, or financial data. We do not use advertising pixels or set tracking cookies on public pages. We do not collect device identifiers, IMEI numbers, or phone numbers.

We use the information we collect to:

• Improve route and fare coverage across South Africa
• Respond to enquiries, partnership requests, and support queries
• Process and verify community-submitted fare data
• Improve search quality and identify missing routes

We do not sell your personal information to any third party. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling purposes.

All data is stored in a PostgreSQL database on a private server with restricted access and regular backups. All data in transit between your device and Farezi is encrypted using HTTPS. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure.

Search query logs are retained for up to 90 days and then deleted. Contact form messages are retained for as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry. Route and fare submission data is retained as part of the Farezi database for as long as the platform operates, as it forms part of the public transport dataset.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to any third party. We may share anonymised, aggregated route and fare data with research institutions, government departments, or commercial partners under our data licensing programme. This data contains no personally identifiable information.

We may disclose personal information if required to do so by South African law or by a valid court order.

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (Act 4 of 2013), you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Object to the processing of your information
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@farezi.co.za. We will respond to all requests within 30 days in line with POPIA requirements.

Farezi is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@farezi.co.za and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Farezi after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
